  • Installation of internal fire-rated windows
  • Installation of beech veneer fire doors
  • All associated ironmongery
  • Installation of rainbow coat hooks
  • Painting and decorating

What Made This Project Complex

  • 01Tight 6-week summer holiday window with no flexibility for overrun
  • 02EYFS-specific requirements including fire-rated partitions, safety flooring, and fire doors
  • 03Coordinating multiple trades (electrical, flooring, joinery, decoration) within a compressed programme

The Challenge

Refurbishing early years and Year 1 classrooms to create modern, age-appropriate learning environments within a tight 6-week summer holiday programme. The classrooms had to be fully complete, cleaned, and ready for the new academic year with no margin for overrun.

Our Approach

A compressed summer works programme was developed with all trades pre-sequenced to eliminate downtime. Operatives carried out soft strip and demolition in week one, with M&E first fix, plastering, and ceiling works following in rapid succession. EYFS-specific finishes — safety vinyl flooring, rounded-edge fixtures, and low-level sinks — were installed in the final phase.

Verified Outcome

Classrooms fully refurbished and ready for the new academic year. The school's EYFS and Year 1 pupils returned to modern, purpose-designed learning environments meeting current early years standards.

“I have worked with Clarke Lambert for the past 7 years and have always found their work to be of a very high quality. As a new headteacher, I found their service to be excellent: they offer open and honest advice that is in the best interests of the school and always suggest where savings could be made without compromising quality. As they have worked within the education sector for so long, they understand the specific requirements for health and safety, so nothing gets missed (finger guards, safety glass, appropriate fire evacuation routes etc). They also understand the safeguarding and conduct requirements in a school: their teams are all DBS checked; security conscious; tidy, calm and quiet (no blaring radios, shouting or inappropriate dress code). Nick and Hannah are always on hand to meet to discuss potential projects and show a genuine interest and joy in the possible outcomes for the children – they appreciate the impact that beautiful, efficient spaces can have. Nick is passionate about old buildings and period features and, where appropriate, will suggest ways to bring these back to their original standard – for example, stripping and re-varnishing wooden hall floors. However, if modernisation is required, that is what he will suggest. Clarke Lambert have completed several large and small projects in my school. All of them have run to time, and communication has been excellent throughout – we are delighted with the results. They are always happy to provide detailed quotes and maintain strong relationships whether these are accepted or not. I would recommend Clarke Lambert to any school.”
